How to Get Work Visa for Kuwait? If you are planning to move to Kuwait for employment, you must obtain a valid Kuwait work visa to legally live and work in the country. This guide explains the step-by-step process, requirements, and important documents needed to make your application smooth and fast.
Company Sponsorship
To work and live in Kuwait, you must obtain an Iqama (residency) visa, usually arranged by your employer after securing a job offer. The employer applies for your visa and issues a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for entry. After arriving in Kuwait, you must complete medical screening and other requirements to receive your residency visa.
Residency is typically issued for up to 5 years and may require annual renewal. A fee of KD 10 per year is charged, though employers may cover this cost for government sector employees. For private jobs, the payment responsibility should be agreed upon between the employee and employer.

To apply for a Kuwait job visa, you must have a valid passport with at least 3 months’ validity and one blank page for visa stamping. You also need a recent passport-sized photo, a police clearance certificate from your home country, and a completed visa application form.
Medical Screening
To obtain a residency visa, applicants must pass medical tests to confirm they are free from infectious diseases. These screenings may include tests for Hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, syphilis, and malaria. A medical certificate from a licensed doctor is also required, confirming good health and no contagious conditions for visa approval.
Applicants may undergo a medical examination and vaccination as part of the residency process. Test results are usually available within a week. If serious health conditions are detected, the application may be affected according to public health regulations. A health clearance certificate is issued by the Ministry of Public Health after successful results, allowing visa processing to continue.
Kuwaiti Civil ID
A residency visa holder will be listed on their visa documents. The next step is to apply for a Civil ID (Bitaqa or Almadaniyah). You must submit your application, and it is usually issued within about four weeks, along with your residency visa process.
Dependents
A person who has received a residency visa can sponsor their dependents, including their spouse and family members. However, in most cases, a woman cannot sponsor her husband under standard residency rules.
Protection Clearance
Retirees must provide fingerprints before legally living in the country and obtain security clearance. Applicants need a copy of their fingerprints, a passport, 4 passport photos, and an approval letter from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs for verification.
Application forms must be completed in Arabic. If needed, you can hire a typist service for a small fee. Fingerprint processing takes about one week, after which the security clearance certificate is issued by the Ministry of Interior. You can collect it from the office where fingerprints were taken.
